Time to Sort Through Those Pictures!

Do you have boxes full of pictures that you wish you could find the time to put into a scrapbook?  Does the task seem so daunting that you never want to get started?

If you take baby steps to get things in order you can make scrapbooking your memories not only possible, but enjoyable as well.

One of the first things you can do is to go through each stack or box of pictures and throw away all of the blurry, out of focus shots.  Have an ugly picture or two that you would never put in a photo album or scrapbook?  Toss it.  Why hold on to it?  This should eliminate a small, but recognizable, portion of the pictures you have to deal with.

The next step is to gather all of the pictures from other people's parties and events that you know you will never devote a lot of time to scrapbooking.  Save a few of the nicer shots and give the remainder of the photos to the family whose event this was.  This way you know the pictures will be appreciated, you still have a couple to remember the occasion, and you can spend time on the pictures that matter.

Don't Miss The Flowers!

OK. I know, I am going to add more pictures to your pile....unless you are some superstar scrapbooker, which I am not.  But I have got to remind you....

The bluebonnets are out!  Tons of great bluebonnets!  If you are in Texas, you know what I am talking about.  We love to get pictures of our kids in the bluebonnets.  They have left a lot to be desired for the past couple of years.  There weren't many bluebonnets to speak of.  This is a GREAT bluebonnet year.  Get out there!  Take some pictures!  Don't miss your small window of opportunity!  Who knows when you will have such great patches of beautiful flowers to choose from again.

Spring Break Scrapbooking

Many kids are on spring break.  Let them take out some of their favorite pictures from a special day and create a scrapbook!  We all know we have too many pictures that we will never get around to putting into a scrapbook, so why not let them do some of the work for you? Don't worry about losing the pictures, just require that they put their new scrapbook with the family books so that they stay together.  Utilize some of their energy!

I have found several nice mini scrapbook kits at Target in the dollar aisle.  My kids have put together a few books and now I have books put together from special days with their memories from the occasion written inside.  Even more special than something I could have done!  Use your imagination and use your kids energy and enthusiasm to get through your stack of photos.

How to Use Photos From a Friend's Party

Have you, or your child, attended a party and you don't know what to do with all of the pictures?  You don't want to use them all in your albums, but you don't want to waste them.  Here are some suggestions:

  • Make a small, homemade book and give it to the person of honor (or his or her mother) as a gift.
  • If this is a child's party, you can give it to their mom for Mother's Day, Just Because or even Christmas
  • Have your child make a homemade scrapbook and give it to the other child...more on how to make a homemade scrapbook for children in a few days...
  • If you are trying to clear out your pictures so that you can focus on your own books and the direction you want to take, mail them off just as they are
  • Have a photo tote bag made (super affordable) and put the remaining photos inside.
  • Keep just a couple for your book so that you can make one page if this is not your child's party.
  • I really recommend finding photos to keep and focus on, a huge stack of random photos is too easy to put off because of the hopelessness of it all....
Hope these tips help you get some ideas and get started with sorting some pictures.
